The Story of Zuk...

The name "Zuk" (pronounced "zoo-k" ) came about in a sort of round about way. It all began with a sense of adventure, a love of getting dirty in the mud and spending time in nature, and weekends exploring back road trails on beautiful Vancouver Island. The rest is still playing itself out in history...

The same sense of adventure is applied to everything we do here at Zuk Design. We challenge the tough stuff and work our way through the muck that sometimes presents itself in the world of web and print design, to find the best solutions possible for any given problem. We grab life and live it to the fullest and we are passionate about design. It’s just like Zuking, only for real.

What does ‘Zuk’ mean?

We get this question a lot. Some people assume it is our last names, and although it is a cool name, it is not ours. It could be that the name means virtually nothing and is used strictly for its memorability factor - an important thing to remember when choosing one. We like it because it begins with the cool letter 'Z'!

We think our name fits the vehicle of design well, but we like to think it also means something, so we have come up with a few fun possibilities. We like the fish definition, but feel free to pick your favourite.

Is it a Beetle?

Zuk beetle

The Zuk ’Beetle’ was a van produced in Poland from 1958-1997 with unique
independent front suspension. About 587,000 of them were made and they
were quite a popular vehicle used for everything from carrying firemen to delivering mail, and farmers found them handy for transporting produce
from field to market. There appears to be quite a devoted following of Zuk
owners to this day.

Is it a Fish?

Suzuki fish

A ’Suzuki’ is a Japanese Seabass whose name
and gender changes as they grow. This fish is
often associated with advancement in life
and is believed by some to be a
’luck-bringer fish.’

Or maybe...

Zuk is what happens when the letters fall off the back of your Samurai, one-by-one.
